Endings and scatterings

Monday, October 19th, 2009 by richfoss

Every organization has its ending. People leaving. Programs failing. Funding cut. As I look out my window at the landscape this morning I see leaves dying, frozen plants, and a grape arbor with the few remaining grapes shriveled on the vines.

What’s not so obvious is that fall is the time when plants are furiously scattering their seeds to the wind, dropping their seeds on animals, giving their seeds to birds to transport to distant places. All this wild seeding happens in order that a few seeds of each species will take root next spring.

As you experience the emptiness of endings in your organization, look around for seeds that that are being scattered among the debris. Some of these will take root months from now and bring new life to your organization.
